What Your Clients Need to Know
The Route Itself
From KLIA, drivers take the ELITE Highway northbound, same as the KL city route, but continue past the Kuala Lumpur exits. Around Rawang, they transition to the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway (Route 2/E8) heading east toward Bentong. The scenery shifts from urban sprawl to proper countryside - rubber plantations, small kampung villages, limestone hills in the distance.
The real fun starts at Gombak, where the old Genting road begins its climb. It's about 20 kilometers of winding mountain road with something like 40+ hairpin bends. Drivers who do this route regularly can handle it in their sleep, but first-timers (and passengers prone to motion sickness) should be prepared. The road is well-paved and safe, just twisty as hell.
Weather is a major factor here. Genting sits at 1,800 meters elevation, and mountain weather is unpredictable. Morning fog is common, especially around 6-9am. Afternoon thunderstorms (2-5pm) can be intense - heavy rain, low visibility, occasional landslides blocking lanes. Drivers know to slow down and wait it out if needed. This is why journey times vary so much - we can't fight the weather gods.
The new alternative route via Batang Kali is slightly longer but has gentler curves and better drainage. Most drivers stick to the classic Gombak route though, unless there's an accident or roadwork.
Drop-off Points at Genting
Genting Highlands is actually a whole complex, not just one hotel. Here's where most transfers end up:
| Location | Properties | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Genting Grand | Grand ion Delemen, Grand ion Majestic | Main casino area, most central location |
| Resorts World | Maxims, Resort Hotel, First World Hotel | Budget properties, closest to SkyWorlds Theme Park |
| Crockfords | Crockfords Tower | Luxury property, separate entrance, VIP casino |
| Awana | Awana SkyWay Hotel, Awana Genting Highlands Golf & Country Resort | Mid-mountain location, cable car station nearby |
All properties within the main Genting resort complex are interconnected by covered walkways and internal shuttles. Drop-off at one hotel, walk to another - it's all doable (though confusing for first-timers).
The Cable Car Option
Want to add some wow factor? We can drop your clients at Awana SkyWay station (mid-mountain point) instead of driving all the way up. They take the 10-minute cable car ride to the resort - Southeast Asia's fastest mono-cable car with glass-bottom gondolas. Views are genuinely stunning when weather cooperates.
Cable car tickets are MYR 8 one-way per person (not included in our transfer rates). It operates daily 7:30am-11pm, with 15-minute wait times on average. During weekends and school holidays, queues can hit 45+ minutes, so factor that in.
What's Included in Our Rates
-
Meet & greet service - Driver waits at KLIA/KLIA2 arrivals with printed name board. Given this is a longer journey, we make sure your clients are comfortable before departing.
-
Flight monitoring - We track all incoming flights and adjust pickup times. If your clients are delayed, the transfer still happens - no panic required.
-
60-minute waiting time - Covers immigration, baggage claim, and that inevitable bathroom stop before the long drive.
-
All toll charges included - ELITE Highway (MYR 5.50), Karak Highway tolls (MYR 4.50), mountain road access (MYR 3). It adds up, but we've got it covered.
-
Rest stop included - For journeys over 90 minutes, drivers stop at Gombak R&R (rest area with toilets and food stalls) if clients request it. No extra charge.
-
Mountain-experienced drivers - All our Genting route drivers have 3+ years navigating that mountain road. They know which bends to slow down on and when to avoid overtaking slow tourist buses.
