What Your Clients Need to Know

The Route Itself

Let's be honest - this transfer takes a while. But there's a reason Ubud visitors don't mind the journey. The route from Ngurah Rai Airport heads north through Denpasar, then winds up into the central highlands. Once you're past the urban sprawl, the scenery shifts to something properly Balinese.

Drivers typically take the Bypass Ngurah Rai to avoid Denpasar's notorious traffic, then head inland through Sukawati and Gianyar. The last stretch - roughly 15km before Ubud - is where things get interesting. The road narrows, curves increase, and suddenly you're surrounded by rice paddies carved into hillsides like giant green staircases.

Here's what affects journey time: Morning rush (7-9am) adds 20-30 minutes as locals head to work and school. Temple ceremonies can close roads entirely - drivers know the back routes but it adds time. And if your clients arrive during Nyepi (Balinese New Year), well, nothing moves. Plan accordingly.

The sweet spot? Early morning arrivals (6-7am) or late evening (after 8pm) when traffic thins out. Plus, the cooler temperatures make for a more comfortable ride.

Airport Pickup at Ngurah Rai

Bali's international terminal is relatively compact - there's just one arrivals hall. Drivers meet clients just outside the customs exit, near the FamilyMart. Look for the name board holders clustered near the exit doors.

Pro tip: Immigration can take 45-90 minutes during peak times (afternoon flights from Australia, evening arrivals from Asia). We build in 90-minute waiting time for international arrivals. Drivers track flights, so delays aren't an issue.

The airport has free WiFi, but it's patchy. Tell clients to screenshot the driver contact details before landing - it makes life easier if there's a mix-up.

Arriving in Ubud

Ubud doesn't have a single "center" - it's more a collection of villages that merged over time. Hotels spread out along the main Jalan Raya Ubud road and down into the valleys. Some properties are tucked into rice fields accessible only by narrow village lanes.

Drivers know the area well, but it helps to have the hotel's Google Maps pin ready. Those boutique villas down tiny gangs (alleys) can be tricky to find first time. Also, some resorts have multiple entrances - the main entrance might be vehicle-accessible, while the "scenic" entrance is stairs only.

Traffic in Ubud town itself moves slowly. Narrow roads, pedestrians, scooters, ceremonial processions - it's organized chaos. The final 10 minutes of the transfer might feel longer than the previous hour. That's just Ubud.

What's Included in Our Rates

  • Meet & greet at arrivals - Driver waits with name board at the international terminal exit. They'll help with luggage and guide clients to the parking area.
  • Flight monitoring - We track all incoming flights and adjust pickup times automatically. Delays happen; we adapt.
  • 90-minute waiting time - International arrivals get 90 minutes from touchdown. Domestic flights get 45 minutes. More than enough for most arrivals.
  • Bottled water - Complimentary water bottles in the car. Small touch, but appreciated after a long flight.
  • All tolls and parking - There's one toll road segment on the bypass. It's included in the rate.

Questions We Get Asked All The Time

Absolutely - most drivers are happy to make quick stops, especially at scenic viewpoints. The Tegallalang rice terraces are about 10 minutes off the main route (adds 20 minutes total with photo time). Alternatively, there are unnamed terraces right along the road where drivers can pull over safely. Just mention it when booking and we'll note it. No extra charge for reasonable photo stops.

Two reasons: distance and road conditions. Ubud is 35km inland versus 10-15km for beach areas like Seminyak or Sanur. The route also includes winding highland roads that require experienced drivers and use more fuel. Plus, the return journey to pick up the next client takes drivers out of their usual beach-route rotation. The price reflects actual operating costs, not just distance.

No problem - drivers know Ubud well, including those tucked-away properties. For really narrow gangs (alleys) where cars can't fit, drivers drop off at the nearest accessible point and help carry luggage. Some boutique villas send staff with scooters to assist. Just share the Google Maps pin when booking so we can brief the driver in advance.

For B2B bookings, we invoice you directly - your clients don't pay drivers. If you prefer cash collection (for FIT bookings), we can arrange that, but prepayment gives you better rates and eliminates currency hassles. Drivers carry change for IDR payments but prefer exact amounts. Tips are appreciated but not expected - 50,000-100,000 IDR is generous for good service.

Yes, perfectly safe. The route is well-maintained and regularly traveled. That said, visibility is limited on the winding sections after dark - no street lights once you leave the main highway. Drivers take it slower at night, so add 10-15 minutes to the journey time. Late night arrivals (after 10pm) actually have less traffic, which partially offsets the slower pace.
