Chinese New Year 2027 and Ramadan 2027: Peak Dates Travel Agents Must Plan For

Chinese New Year 2027 and Ramadan 2027: Peak Dates Travel Agents Must Plan For

February and March 2027 put three of the biggest travel peaks of the year inside five weeks. Chinese New Year 2027 falls on Saturday 6 February. Ramadan is expected to begin around 8 February. Eid al-Fitr is expected on 9 or 10 March, and the official Saudi calendar closes Umrah visa issuance on 9 March 2027. If you sell Southeast Asia, the Gulf or Umrah, hotel availability, prices and client demand will move in different directions in different markets, often in the same week.

This is a planning calendar for travel agents and tour operators. It sets out the confirmed and expected dates by country, what each peak does to hotels and ground services, which of your source markets travel when, and the booking timeline we would work to from October 2026 onwards. Dates that depend on a moon sighting or a government announcement are marked as expected, not confirmed.

Key Takeaways

  • Chinese New Year 2027 is Saturday 6 February. Singapore has public holidays on 6, 7 and 8 February; Korea's Seollal break runs 6 to 9 February.
  • Chinese outbound travel peaks over the holiday. In 2026, the top destinations named by Chinese booking platforms were Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Vietnam and Indonesia.
  • Ramadan 2027 is expected to run from about 8 February to 8 or 9 March, with Eid al-Fitr on 9 or 10 March. Singapore has gazetted Hari Raya Puasa for 10 March.
  • The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah stops issuing Umrah visas on 9 March 2027. Ramadan Umrah groups need visas issued, and hotels confirmed, well before then.
  • Book February hotels in Southeast Asian gateways now, and treat the last ten nights of Ramadan in Makkah as the tightest inventory of the season.

Chinese New Year 2027 Travel Period: Dates by Market

Lunar New Year 2027 is on Saturday 6 February in most of East and Southeast Asia. It is the Year of the Goat. Each country handles the holiday differently, and the differences matter when you are choosing travel dates for clients.

Mainland China

The State Council announces the official Spring Festival holiday, including any make-up working days, for the following year, usually in November. So the exact length of the 2027 break is not known yet. For reference, the 2026 Spring Festival holiday ran nine days, from 15 to 23 February, according to Dragon Trail's review of Chinese New Year 2026 travel. Expect the 2027 break to fall around 6 February and to drive the same surge in outbound trips.

Singapore

Chinese New Year is on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February 2027. Because the second day falls on a Sunday, Monday 8 February is also a public holiday, according to the Ministry of Manpower's gazetted 2027 list. Singapore residents get a three-day weekend, and outbound short-haul trips from Singapore will be busy.

Malaysia

Malaysia's 2027 federal list, issued by the Prime Minister's Department, has Chinese New Year on 6 and 7 February. Replacement holidays vary by state, because weekends differ between states, so check the state your clients are visiting or departing from.

Vietnam

Tet falls on 6 February 2027. Vietnam's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has backed a seven-day holiday from 4 to 10 February, but the government had not signed it off at the time of writing. Expect sold-out domestic transport, higher hotel rates in resort areas, and many family-run shops and restaurants closed for several days.

South Korea

Seollal is on Sunday 7 February 2027 in Korea. The official calendar guidelines give a four-day holiday from 6 to 9 February, including a substitute day. Domestic travel peaks, Seoul empties out, and some markets and smaller restaurants close for a day or two.

Where to Travel During Chinese New Year 2027: What It Means for Your Clients

Your clients are probably not Chinese holidaymakers. They are Indian, Filipino, Gulf, Pakistani or Bangladeshi families who happen to want Southeast Asia in February. But they are competing for the same rooms.

The Chinese platforms' 2026 holiday data shows where that competition is strongest. Fliggy reported Thailand as the number one holiday destination. Tongcheng's short-haul leaders were South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau and Indonesia. Qunar's top cities were Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Singapore, Seoul, Phuket, Ho Chi Minh City, Bali, Sydney and Chiang Mai. Mafengwo's list added Vietnam and Türkiye.

Read that list against your own February bookings:

  • Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai: expect the strongest pressure on rates and availability. Check our Thailand B2B portal for live allotments before quoting.
  • Singapore and Kuala Lumpur: outbound residents leave and Chinese visitors arrive over the same weekend. City hotels near Chinatown, Orchard and Bukit Bintang feel it most. See the Singapore and Malaysia portal pages.
  • Bali: on the Qunar top-ten list, so February rates around the holiday week should be checked, not assumed. Our Bali B2B portal has villa and resort net rates.
  • Vietnam: the issue is less foreign competition and more Tet closures and domestic demand. Ho Chi Minh City and beach resorts are busy; smaller towns can be very quiet. See the Vietnam B2B portal.

Four practical rules for CNY week quotes

  1. Quote early, and quote with an expiry. A February rate held in October is worth more than a cheaper rate found in January that has already gone.
  2. Watch minimum stays and non-refundable terms. Peak-week rates often carry minimum night rules and stricter cancellation. Put them on the quote.
  3. Move the dates if the client can. Shifting a trip by a week either side of the holiday usually avoids the worst of the demand.
  4. Tell clients what closes. Attractions stay open and get busy. Some local restaurants and shops, especially family-run ones, close on the first days of the new year.

Ground services over the holiday

Hotels are only half of the problem. Guides, drivers and coach operators celebrate the new year too, and in Vietnam and Korea the domestic holiday rush ties up vehicles, trains and domestic flights. For CNY and Tet week, confirm guides, coaches and private transfers at the same time as the hotels, not after. Check hotel and ground contracts for holiday supplements, and ask suppliers in Vietnam whether any services stop over the Tet days. If a client insists on a big city tour on the first day of the new year, confirm in writing that the key sights are open that day.

Give clients two options

The simplest way to handle CNY-week demand is to quote two versions of the same trip: one on the client's preferred dates and one a week later. The second option usually shows a better hotel for the money and an easier itinerary. Most clients choose for themselves once they see both side by side. It also protects you, because the client has seen the peak-week price and the alternative before deciding.

Ramadan 2027 Dates and What Changes for Travel

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on or around 8 February, depending on the sighting of the new moon, and to last 29 or 30 days. Countries may start a day apart. For your business, Ramadan changes two things: what happens in Muslim-majority destinations, and when your Muslim clients travel.

In the destinations

In the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Maldives, Türkiye, Egypt and Jordan, daily life follows the fasting day. Expect shorter daytime working hours in government offices and some businesses, restaurant timings that shift towards iftar and suhoor, and in some places more limited daytime dining. Iftar experiences become a product in their own right, especially in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Brief non-Muslim clients on local etiquette, such as not eating or drinking in public places during fasting hours where that is expected.

For leisure travel within the Gulf, Ramadan has traditionally been a quieter period, and many hotels run Ramadan offers. Eid then brings a sharp rebound. If you sell Dubai, price February and early March separately from the Eid week. Our UAE B2B portal and Dubai hotel rates show how terms change across those dates.

In your source markets

Agents in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Gulf, and agents serving Muslim travellers in India, the UK and elsewhere, will see the usual pattern: leisure bookings dip during the fast, Umrah demand climbs towards the last ten nights, and Eid holiday travel spikes immediately after. Our Pakistan and Bangladesh portal pages cover the destinations those markets book most.

Umrah in Ramadan 2027: The Dates That Decide Your Groups

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has published the full calendar for the 1448 AH Umrah season. These are not estimates.

  • Visa issuance and entry opened on 31 May 2026. Makkah entry and Nusuk permits opened on 1 June 2026.
  • Last date for Umrah visa issuance: 1 Shawwal 1448, which is 9 March 2027.
  • Last date for Umrah pilgrims to enter Saudi Arabia: 15 Shawwal, 23 March 2027.
  • Last date for Umrah pilgrims to leave: 30 Shawwal, 7 April 2027.

The ministry's announcement is on haj.gov.sa.

What that means in practice

The visa cut-off falls on the expected first day of Eid. A group travelling for the last ten nights of Ramadan, roughly 27 February to 8 March, must have visas issued before 9 March, and in practice weeks before. Two further rules widely reported for this season tighten the window:

  • Bookings first, visa second. Visas are issued only after hotel and transport bookings are confirmed and logged in Nusuk.
  • A shorter validity. The entry visa is reported to be valid for 30 days from issue, not from the flight date. Issue too early and it can expire before the group flies.

So the workable window for a last-ten-nights group is narrow: hotels and transport confirmed first, visas issued within 30 days of arrival, and everything done before 9 March. Every pilgrim also needs a Nusuk permit for Umrah itself, booked for a date and time slot.

Hotels near the Haram

The last ten nights carry the tightest Makkah inventory of the year outside Hajj. Hotels closest to Masjid al-Haram often sell Ramadan as fixed packages with minimum stays. If you are quoting now, confirm those properties first and build the flights around them. For Ramadan and post-Eid Umrah, start with our Umrah travel portal for agents.

Eid al-Fitr 2027: The Second Spike

Eid al-Fitr is expected on 9 or 10 March 2027. Singapore has gazetted Hari Raya Puasa for Wednesday 10 March. Malaysia's 2027 list has Hari Raya Aidilfitri on 10 and 11 March, subject to change. Gulf governments usually confirm their Eid breaks close to the date. If clients want to combine Umrah with the Eid holiday, remember that Umrah pilgrims must enter Saudi Arabia by 23 March and leave by 7 April 2027.

For agents, Eid week is a short, sharp outbound peak from the Gulf, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Indonesia. Popular short-haul choices from those markets are well known to you already. The point is timing: the rooms your Eid clients want are released and sold in the weeks before Ramadan, not after it. Our Eid holiday packages page covers the destinations and package shapes agents book most.

Two Client Briefings You Can Copy

Send the first with any voucher for travel between 4 and 10 February 2027:

"Your trip falls during Lunar New Year (6 February 2027). It is one of the busiest weeks of the year in Asia. Attractions will be open and crowded, and some family-run shops and restaurants may close for the first days of the holiday. Please allow extra time for airport transfers and keep your hotel confirmation handy, because hotels will be full."

Send the second with trips to Muslim-majority destinations between about 8 February and 9 March 2027:

"Your trip falls during Ramadan. Many restaurants change their hours, and some only open after sunset. Please avoid eating, drinking or smoking in public during daylight hours where this is expected. Evenings are lively, and an iftar meal at sunset is a great experience. Shops and attractions may open later or close earlier than usual."

Keep them short. Clients read the first two lines.

China's State Council has not yet published the 2027 Spring Festival holiday; it normally does so in November. The break will fall around 6 February. In 2026 the official holiday ran nine days, from 15 to 23 February, and outbound trips surged across Asia.

When does Ramadan 2027 start and end?

Ramadan 2027 is expected to start on or around 8 February and end on 8 or 9 March, depending on moon sighting. Eid al-Fitr is expected on 9 or 10 March. Singapore has gazetted Hari Raya Puasa for 10 March, and Malaysia lists 10 and 11 March.

Is February 2027 a good time to visit Thailand or Singapore?

Yes, but Chinese New Year week is the busiest part of the month. In 2026, Thailand was the top holiday destination for Chinese travellers on Fliggy, and Singapore was in Tongcheng's short-haul top list. Book early, or move the trip a week either side of 6 February.

Are hotels cheaper in Dubai during Ramadan?

Ramadan has traditionally been a quieter period for leisure travel in the Gulf, and many Dubai hotels run Ramadan offers. Rates then rise sharply for Eid. Check live rates for the exact dates, because events and conferences can still fill hotels during the month.

Which destinations close for Tet and Seollal?

No destination closes, but many family-run shops and restaurants in Vietnam close for several days around Tet, and some in South Korea close for a day or two around Seollal. Domestic transport is very busy. Major attractions and hotels stay open.
